The BCSLS gives Honourary Awards to outstanding Medical Laboratory Professionals each year at our Annual General Meeting. Every year we call for nominations in three categories; Achievement, Excellence, Recognition.

Awards are presented at the BCSLS AGM.  The nominee does not have to attend Congress/AGM in order to receive this award.  This year the AGM is in Victoria, BC during the 2024 Congress. The AGM is on October 4

We will not be accepting self nominations.

Achievement Award:

Eligibility: BCSLS members and non-BCSLS members 

Criteria:  The nominee brings over 10 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Professional, showcasing remarkable career achievements. The nominee demonstrates longstanding commitment, dedication, mentorship, and active involvement in the Medical Laboratory profession both inside and outside of their position of employment (such as serving on Boards, Committees, volunteer hours). Nominator should detail the nominee’s notable career milestones and their contributions to the broader Medical Laboratory Community. This nominee supports best practices, ensures quality, and promotes the best interests of our Medical Laboratory Professionals.

Excellence Award:

Eligibility:  BCSLS members and non-BCSLS members 

Criteria: The nominee consistently upholds a standard of excellence and quality, showcasing extensive participation in a variety of projects and initiatives.  This individual is a leader and a champion of the Medical Laboratory profession. This individual is actively involved in lab quality improvement through innovation, change management, and systems transformation. Nominator must provide examples to illustrate the ongoing contributions made by this individual to improve quality of lab services, exemplifying their role as a champion of the medical laboratory.

Recognition Award:

 Eligibility: BCSLS members and non-BCSLS members 

 Criteria:  This individual has been nominated by a colleague and endorsed by a leader (such as Site Supervisor, Team Lead, or Technical Practice Lead), to be recognized for their notable contribution to a particular project and/or for significantly enhancing patient care and the quality of lab services. The nominator must provide examples of the significant contributions made by this individual, and describe the impact or outcome for specific project, patient care, and/or improvement to the quality of lab services.
