WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

As a member of the BCSLS, we would like to invite you to nominate yourself, or a colleague, for a position on the BCSLS Board of Directors. There are 5 available BCSLS Board of Director positions available for the 2024-2026 term.

Your current Board of Directors has been hard at work carrying out strategic planning sessions with the goal of developing our direction and vision for the future of the BCSLS. We are a "hands on Board" with Board members actively participating in, and leading, BCSLS initiatives. We’d love for you to bring your skills, knowledge and enthusiasm to our Board of Directors as we implement our new strategic plan.

As a potential new board member, you probably have a lot of questions and are probably wondering what the time commitment is as a member of the board.

  • The board meets face to face twice a year; once on the day prior to the AGM in the Autumn and once in Spring.

  • Regular board meetings, held via teleconference or Zoom are held quarterly and are usually scheduled in the evening for approximately 2 hours.

  • In addition, you can expect to spend approximately 3-5 hours per month on various project and working groups.

  • I would encourage you to review the BCSLS Bylaws and travel expense policy for more information on board meetings, roles and responsibilities of the various director positions and board policies and procedures.

Our Board of Directors are elected at large by the membership and then assigned to the following positions

2024 Deadlines and timelines:

  • July 15 - August 19: BOD nomination submission

  • August 20 Deadline: Letter of intention must be received. angie@bcsls.net

  • August 22: Candidate information sent out to BCSLS members and voting commences.

  • Sept 9: Last day to Vote

  • Election results will be confirmed at the 2024 AGM on Oct 4th

  • After the AGM, your BOD term begins.

bod positions

  1. Board Directors are elected to the Board by the voting membership of BCSLS.

  2. Then the Board Directors elect Officers of the Board (positions) from amongst themselves.

  3. The election of the Officers happens at the first meeting following an AGM.

  4. The term of office for an Officer is 2 years. However, the bylaws allow for a successor to be elected or appointed sooner, if needed, via the Officer election process. So, the Directors could elect someone from amongst themselves to fulfill that role.
